Ask for Forgiveness-Continually or Once

Could you help me understand some of these verses in I John that seem to allow for the belief that we don't need to continue to ask for forgiveness of sin? [I John 1:7-9, I John 2:2, I John 10, John 3:17-21, James 4:2-3].
